Predators dominate Fighting Sioux in 2019 PGLL finals rematch

May 27, 2022 | 11:54 PM

The Prince Albert Predators regained the top spot of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League junior standings with a big 12-3 victory over the Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux Friday at the Kinsmen Arena.

The Predators did most of their damage in the first period, as they stormed out out the gates with an 8-0 lead in the first period. In just the opening frame alone, seven Preds had already had two or more points.

That would have been enough for the Predators, but they scored another in the second period and three more in the third.

The Predators’ deadly scoring trio of Matthew Cudmore, Dillan Cochrane and Hayden Ulriksen continue to produce. Cudmore had two goals and six points in the game, moving him up to second in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League scoring. Cochrane is right behind him in third with 25 points after his two-goal, three-point night. Ulriksen has 22 points, good for fourth in the league, after scoring two goals and two assists.

Predators’ goaltender Mason Hawkes had some good hockey goalie numbers in the game, as he made 27 saves on 30 Fighting Sioux shots. Hawkes some great saves in the opening frame, especially one late in the frame as Hawkes lunged to his right to deny Fighting Sioux’s Logan Goodwill of a great opportunity in front of the net. Hawkes also found captain Davin Ikert with a 170-foot pass, springing Ikert on a shorthanded breakaway late in the game for an assist.

The two teams will have a rematch at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort on Saturday.
