A woman charged after a Prince albert ride sharing incident gone bad, and who has failed to show up for court on four separate occasions, is being given another chance.

Jeanique April, 28, appeared by phone for her latest court appearance Wednesday morning at provincial court.

The case dates back to Jan. 4, 2021. Police officers responded to the 500 block of 22nd St. E. after a report of a shooting. At the time, police indicated one man was taken to hospital with a gun shot wound to his back. paNOW later learned the victim was in fact the driver who spent nearly three weeks in hospital.

Derek Cook, the man responsible for shooting the driver, received a four year prison sentence.

While April was not the one who pulled the trigger, it’s alleged she was in the vehicle and is facing charges related to robbery and assault. Due to a publication ban, the details of Wednesday’s hearing cannot be released including the circumstances of the incident and the reason why the judge released April.

She’s scheduled to be back in court on June 13.

paNOW has been closely following the case since April made her first court appearance in February, 2021. Since then the matter has spoken to over 40 times. Each of the four times April failed to show up for court, a bench warrant was subsequently ordered for her arrest.
