Longjohn elected first female Chief of Sturgeon Lake First Nation

Christine Longjohn has formally been elected the first female Chief of Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

She was declared the winner of Friday’s election with 489 votes.

The Runner-up, James Felix, received 180 votes and Micah Daniels, received 126 votes.

Out of a possible 2,000 eligible voters, 831 cast a ballot.

For the six councillor seats, Solomon Sanderson, Velmar Ermine, Fred Felix, and Anita Parenteau were all re-elected.

Wesley Ballantyne and Bernard Moosehunter represent the two fresh faces.

The swearing in ceremony was held on Saturday.
