Shopping cart used as fire pit in 9th floor balcony

May 12, 2022 | 5:39 PM

A ninth floor tenant in a building on River Street East is facing a $300 fine for lighting a fire in a shopping cart on their balcony.

The Prince Albert Fire Department was called to 33 River Street East last night just before 11 p.m.

When members arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from a ninth floor balcony.

Investigation showed that the tenant had used a shopping cart for a fire pit and had a log burning in it.

Crews extinguished the fire, ventilated the areas and fined the tenant.

The fire department is reminding people that all fire pits must comply with Bylaw 15 of 2021 and infractions will result in fines.
