COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

Another successful community clean up week for P.A.

May 12, 2022 | 1:00 PM

Last week, residents of Prince Albert came together during another successful Community Clean Up and Pitch-In Week.

From May 1-7, people were encouraged to bring their household garbage, electronics, appliances, grass, leaves and recyclables to one of four locations across the city.

Councillor Dawn Kilmer helped out at the south drop off spot at the Kinsmen Water Park parking lot and says the clean up went well.

“Once they got used to what the sight was and understand that they could come, it went very well.”

The other locations were at Cornerstone Free Methodist Church, Parkland Hall and Sixth Ave. and 10th St. East.

Kilmer said overall, the drop off points were busy and the response from the community was positive.

“People came out in droves. Not everyone has trucks or the ability to bring metal, fridges and stoves, many dishwashers. It was incredible how much people cleaned up in their neighbourhoods. People talked to me about how they’re doing their back alley and always looked after their back alley. It just brings the community out and makes us look a little greener.”

While this is the only community clean up event for the year, items can still be taken to the Prince Albert landfill.

The city is planning its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day for September 17 at the Old City Yards on Exhibition Drive.
