Buckland Fire and Rescue searching for new members

May 11, 2022 | 1:04 PM

The Rural Municipality of Buckland’s Volunteer Fire Department is looking for a few men and women to fill some big boots.

The department is currently undergoing a hiring blitz. Fire Chief Gary Schrader told paNOW there is a need to add more members to the team.

“We are getting busy with the summer months but we are getting fewer people showing up for calls,” he said.

Schrader explained they had three calls alone last Friday night, and they’ve had multiple grass fires.

To apply, an individual has to be 18 years of age and older, and will be required to submit a criminal record check. Following six months of training, there’s an expectation the person will be available when called upon.

Schrader explained they respond to a variety of calls including structure fires, bush fires, and vehicle extrication.

“Go out and help your neighbour kind of thing and we train them how to do it properly,” Schrader said.

The hiring blitz ends on May 23. Those interested in applying can do through the fire department’s website.
