Outlaws fight the law in opening day loss to Heat
The Prince Albert Outlaws officially kicked off the return of Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action to Prince Albert. They filled the Kinsmen Arena with noise, excitement and even a few heated, profane moments, they fell 12-8 to the Regina Heat in their senior league season opener.
The Outlaws had a 3-1 lead in the first period with a pair of goals from Kallen Currie and a great diving goal from Kurtis Peifer as the Outlaws scored on three of their five shots in the first period. But Regina turned up the heat as they plastered on 26 shots in the period and led 6-3. The Heat turned the game around by scoring on both penalties of an Outlaws’ 5-on-3 power play.
Outlaws goaltender Lucas Wells did well to keep the Heat bay for as long as he could, but he was peppered with shots for all three periods.
The Outlaws got back into the game in the second period and tied the game on a couple of snipes from Ethan Kennedy and a great transition breakaway goal by Brody Holizki. The Outlaws even chased Heat goaltender Jake Shannon from the game, scoring seven goals on 11 shots.
