P.A. and North Battleford see COVID levels rise: study

Apr 25, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Prince Albert and North Battleford are once again seeing COVID levels rise.

That’s according to the University of Saskatchewan’s wastewater study which is being used to determine how prevalent the virus is in the communities, along with Saskatoon.

After a roughly 16 per cent drop last week, P.A. is looking at an increase of around 112 per cent. This is more in common with previous weeks which saw rises of around 300 per cent and 56 per cent.

As for North Battleford, they’re experiencing a 60 per cent increase. This comes after a week where levels dropped by 20 per cent.

Saskatoon was the only community to see a decrease in levels, dropping by around 35 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Omicron-subvariant BA.2 continues to be the dominant strain. It’s accounting for 100 per cent of levels in Saskatoon, 98 per cent in North Battleford, and 80 per cent in P.A.

This new strain, which is believed to be more contagious, has been popping up across Canada since the start of the year.
