P.A. and North Battleford see COVID levels drop after previous increases

Prince Albert and North Battleford are once again seeing their COVID levels drop.

That’s according to the University of Saskatchewan’s wastewater study which is being used to determine how prevalent the virus is in the communities, along with Saskatoon.

In the last two reports, P.A. had seen a nearly 300 per cent increase followed by a 56 per cent rise. Over the last week, levels have dropped by more than 16 per cent.

Just like the previous weeks, researchers noted melting snow may be playing a part as daily flows at the water treatment plant are up ever since the warmer weather hit the area.

As for North Battleford, coming off a week where levels jumped up by around 250 per cent, the city is looking at a roughly 20 per cent drop.

The only community that’s continuing to see its volume rise is Saskatoon. Over the past week, levels have jumped up by another 25 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Omicron-subvariant BA.2 continues to be the dominant strain. It’s accounting for around 99 per cent of levels in each of the communities.

This new strain, which is believed to be more contagious, has been popping up across Canada since the start of the year.
