Preliminary hearing date set for West Flat murder case

Apr 15, 2022 | 9:00 AM

A court case surrounding a murder in Prince Albert last year is moving forward.

A single day in mid-September has been set aside for Keiston Robin Custer’s preliminary hearing.

The 26-year-old is facing a charge of second degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Norman Charles Custer last May.

Police confirmed the victim died from a gunshot wound. The relationship between the accused and the victim is not clear at this stage of the court proceedings, nor the possible motive.

When the matter was spoken to on Tuesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, Custer was not present. His lawyer Garth Bendig set a date of Sept. 13.

The purpose of the preliminary hearing is to hear the crown’s evidence, and see if there’s enough for the accused to face trial. If it’s deemed there is, the case will then be moved to Court of Queen’s Bench where a pre-trial hearing will first be held.
