Blast from the past: new roller rink opening in P.A.

Apr 13, 2022 | 3:45 PM

Watch out kids, your parents are getting a chance to get their 80s groove on.

A new roller rink called True Rollers is set to open in Prince Albert, the first in the community since Wheel-a-While closed back in 2014.

Owners Richard Torres and Kelsey Aydt originally wanted to open before the COVID-19 pandemic, however, construction only started this past February.

Torres told paNOW the rink will be very nostalgic for people who grew up before 2000.

“It seems like there are more adults pumped about this than kids. They want to bring back the 80s.”

Despite adults being more excited, the hope is kids will come out.

Torres added whether they’re a skilled skater or just learning, everyone is welcome.

“We want everybody to come out and have themselves a good time… you’re supposed to come here for a good time, not be worried about something going wrong here.”

The hope is to have the place open in the coming weeks.

“We’re working as quickly as we can to get it open, say for schools doing their year-ends since this is the first year back with field trips and then have it open for the summer for sure,” said Shannon Zoerb, manager of True Rollers.

They are planning to offer school and birthday packages, along with group bookings.

Right now, they’re aiming to open the rink, located at 86 B South Industrial Drive, on May 2nd.
