Methadone bylaw exemption and the financial impact of COVID-19 on City agenda

Apr 11, 2022 | 9:00 AM

Council will consider the request of the Crescent Park Pharmasave to be exempted from the zoning bylaw for a methadone clinic.

A verbal presentation is planned for the executive committee meeting of council on Monday.

A 2018 bylaw prevents methadone clinics from neighbourhood commercial zones.

Council will also see an update on losses brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, the city lost over $1.7 million because of reduced revenue in areas like parking metres, transit revenue and community services.

Taking into account that the city had $2.5 million in COVID-19 funding for 2021 and that some additional COVID money was given to community groups and police, there is just over $150,000 left in funding.

Staff are asking council exactly where the money should be re-distributed.

Also on the agenda are improvements to off-leash dog access and city beautification.
