Concrete truck being used to bring awareness to P.A. organ donation foundation

A concrete truck is being used to help spread awareness about organ donation.

Earlier this week, B&B Construction Group Inc. unveiled wrapping on one of its trucks highlighting the Karen Pilon Organ Donor Awareness Foundation.

Karen, a native of Prince Albert, passed away in 2014 from pulmonary fibrosis but her liver, two kidneys, and pancreas I-let cells helped save four people. Her family decided to start the foundation to bring awareness to donating after seeing the impact she made.

Clarence Pilon, Karen’s husband, and a B&B employee told paNOW it means a lot to him that his company is helping drive his wife’s cause.

“It was nice to see them step up and do what they’ve done because that’ll be great exposure over the next seven to eight years, however long that covering on that truck lasts.”

B&B has previously wrapped their concrete trucks.

One was designed to show support to the P.A. Raiders, another for the P.A. Mintos, and a third for the Northern Bears female AAA hockey team.

Kris Kulczycki, operations manager for the company, said it was an easy decision to highlight the work the foundation is doing.

“To bring awareness to the community that there are those types of heroes both here and in the past is just amazing.”

He added his company isn’t doing this for attention, rather they hope this brings the foundation more attention which in return could help increase organ donor numbers.

Meanwhile, April is organ donation awareness month.

April 7^th was Green Shirt Day, which was started in recognition of Logan Boulet, a former Humboldt Bronco who passed away in the bus accident four years ago, as he was able to save the lives of six people who received his organs.

“It’s a wonderful thing and I’m glad the family has stepped up and allowed this to happen because it’s definitely brought greater exposure to the need, but there are so many heroes out there,” added Pilon.
