After what was already a successful fundraiser, the YWCA have received a $20,000 donation from local Canadian Tire Owner Malcolm Jenkins for the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser.

The fundraiser, that took place in February, raised over $36,000 locally for the city’s homeless. Prior to the event, Jenkins committed to match the donations up to $20,000, which brought the total number raised to $60,805. This is the second year Jenkins has matched the donation but the total was double what it was last year.

During the Coldest Night of the Year members of the community and YWCA staff walked and fundraised for the cause. In addition to the walk, they also fundraise for three months and had an online auction.

“Winter is a difficult time for those living outdoors,” says YWCA Prince Albert CEO Donna Brooks in a media release. “We have individuals with nowhere to go that rely on programs like our Stepping Stones Shelter. The funds we receive from CNOY are amazing because they come with no strings attached — we can use them directly where we need them to help the people that need it most.”
