DAD BOD CHALLENGE

Local gym holds successful ‘Dad Bod Challenge’

Over a dozen men from across Prince Albert took up the call to improve their physical health in a “Dad Bod” challenge.

Late last year, during the “Swinging With The Stars” event, Danielle Carter, owner of 4 Horsemen Fitness was given an idea after she was asked why she didn’t have any challenges for men at her gym.

“I went home that night, and I was thinking, ‘you know what? I don’t.’ I train tons of youth, I train tons of women, but I don’t really do a challenge for the guys.”

She would later create the “Dad Bod Challenge” which started in January and will wrap up on Sunday.

About 20 men signed for the challenge which involved more than just hitting the gym once in a while.

“All about how to clean eat, how to build exercise if it’s either at the 4 Horsemen or at their homes. How they can manage stress, eat better, kind of live a more healthy, wellness life.”

In the past few months, Carter said it has been a rousing success.

“I’ve had people that had to lose like 50, 60 pounds. I’ve had people that really didn’t have to lose a lot of weight but were having back pain and leg pain. Just getting everybody to get off the couch and just to do something that’s more mentally and physically better for them. I’ve even had people say it has changed their household, their family unit’s better, they have more energy.”

Local businessmen Brent MacDonald and Regan Grimwood were just two of the participants in the challenge.

“I’m 59 years old and I started reviewing my weight and I always thought that I was in good shape and this challenge came along and I think the only way that ever worked for me to do any dieting and workout is to have a challenge,” said MacDonald.

Grimwood said he signed up for the challenge after he and his business partner met Carter at a Raiders game and were excited about the opportunity.

“We basically committed that night and we haven’t looked back,” Grimwood said.

Both Grimwood and MacDonald said despite the challenge ending soon, they plan to keep going.

“It’s something that’s very good for the future and the positive place of 4 Horsemen Fitness and Danielle and the coaches, it’s just a wonderful, happy atmosphere.”

“You look forward to it every day. You’d hate to go this far and give up now,” added Grimwood. “I would highly recommend it to anyone else that’s looking to change their lifestyle as far as diet and exercise. It’s definitely changed my lifestyle.”

Carter said by the time the challenge wraps up on Sunday, they’ll be close to 350 pounds lost among the group.
