PANP to hold online information session on Lake Trout population after sharp decline

After a sharp decline in the Lake Trout population in Kingsmere Lake was reported in 2021 by the Prince Albert National Park (PANP), they are inviting the public to join an online information session on the subject in April.
Since 2009, Parks Canada found the Lake Trout population has declined 45 per cent and presented the data to the public last year. However, this is an ongoing research project and national parks are required to make sure fish populations are managed.
A PANP aquatic ecologist explained in a previous article they’ve been studying the decline from both natural and human causes. She explained they look at variables such as if there has been a shift in climate or water chemistry.
On Thursday, April 7, the PANP will hold their information session from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In the session, participants will learn about the research being done and how you can get involved.
