MELFORT, Sask. – G3 is renewing its support of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association’s BeGrainSafe program. G3 is committing $45,000 for 2022.

BeGrainSafe offers education about the risk of grain entrapment and provides rescue training and equipment for first responders.

In 2022, BeGrainSafe will train firefighters in Central Canada. For the first time training will be offered in French.

G3 President and CEO Don Chapman said the company is funding the translation of the training material.

“Safety is key to everything we do at G3, and that has included providing grain rescue training and equipment to enhance safety in communities across Western Canada,” Chapman said. “We’re proud to help expand this life-saving program to Ontario and Quebec.”

G3 funding will also support training and rescue equipment for six fire departments in Central Canada. The rescue equipment consists of a pencil auger and a coffer dam.

The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) unveiled a new set of priorities and a refreshed brand.

CAFTA President Dan Darling said the update will help to accelerate Canada’s pandemic recovery through increased market access and free trade.

“Our updated priorities represent the enormous opportunities Canada’s agri-food exporters can seize in global markets,” Darling said. “For our members, competitive access to international markets is our lifeblood. These priorities leverage the fact that we export more than half of everything we produce and that we need to be selling our products in every corner of the globe.”

CAFTA’s priorities include opening new markets for Canadian agri-food by prioritizing trade talks with the UK, ASEAN, and Indonesia, upholding the rules-based trading system and strengthening the collaboration between industry and government to improve accountability and transparency.

Darling said CAFTA’s refreshed brand and marketing material reflects the global nature of Canada’s world-class agriculture and agri-food sector.

“A modernized look for CAFTA sends the clear signal that as the world’s fifth largest agri-food exporter, our industry stands ready to work alongside the federal government to play to our strengths and put our sector at the centre of Canada’s economic recovery,” Darling said.

The Do More Agriculture Foundation (Do More Ag) has announced the election of Lauren Martin as the new chair of the board of directors.

Martin said she is honored to work with the board and staff to support the mental wellness of farmers and families.

“This is an industry I care deeply about, and it does not thrive unless our people do. I am grateful to the board of directors for entrusting me with this important work,” Martin said.

For the past several years, Martin has worked for various agricultural trade associations in Ottawa. She takes over from co-founding member, Himanshu Singh.
