Riding for the Brand fundraising auction back for another year

MELFORT, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) is holding its annual fundraising auction to support its efforts for another year.

SSGA president Kelcy Elford said an auction is normally held during the annual general meeting, but the pandemic changed those plans. He said the organization decided to go to a virtual format.

“Last year was a roaring success and I anticipate this year to be the same,” Elford said. “Last year we raised $68,000 for the SSGA which goes to the day-to-day operations and lobby efforts that we do on behalf of all producers.”

The Riding for the Brand Auction is open until tomorrow evening and includes numerous products and services for any livestock operation. However, Elford said there are items for just about anyone, including concert tickets and vacations.

“We’ve got things from a Hawaiian trip to an African safari to a Mexico resort trip to BBQ smokers to YETI Coolers,” Elford said. “There are saddlebags, VBP training, there’s gift certificates, and generators. There’s literally something for everyone on there.”

Elford said it’s obvious there is a lot of interest.

“You know, it was pretty humbling to see the support and I know that this year is going to be the same. I just want to say thank you to those who supported us last year and thank you to those that are going to support us this year,” he said.
