Riders sign O-lineman Maurice Simba to contract

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are hoping their latest signing can lead to no more worries along the offensive line.

The CFL team announced Tuesday it had signed Maurice Simba.

The national O-lineman, who was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, did not start playing football until he immigrated to Canada in 2012.

He played four seasons at Concordia University, where he was a two-time RSEQ all-star and second-team All-Canadian.

After a successful senior season, Simba was invited to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, becoming the first Canadian to ever participate.

The 6-foot-8, 320-pounder was selected in the fourth round (29th overall) of the 2019 CFL draft by the Toronto Argonauts and played one game for them.

He had signed a contract extension with Toronto in 2021.

Simba is the second offensive lineman to sign with the Roughriders in the past five days. On Thursday, Saskatchewan signed former Argos tackle Jamal Campbell, shortly after he was released by Toronto.
