Second Brett Gallant to leave Team Gushue at end of curling season

Mar 19, 2022 | 11:22 AM

Just days after winning the national men’s curling championship, Team Brad Gushue says that second Brett Gallant will be leaving the rink at the end of the season.

The St. John’s, N.L.-based team confirmed the long-rumoured move Saturday in a statement.

Gallant will be joining a new team, the statement said, adding that Gushue, vice Mark Nichols and lead Geoff Walker will continue next season with a new team member who will be named in the coming weeks.

The Gushue team, dubbed Wild Card One at the Brier, defeated Alberta’s Kevin Koe in the final last Sunday.

Gushue, Nichols, Gallant and Walker have won four of the last six Brier titles and earned Olympic bronze at the Beijing Games last month. They also won a world title in 2017 and 11 Grand Slam titles together as a foursome.

They will represent Canada again at the April 2-10 world championship in Las Vegas. After that, their season will wrap with stops at the April 12-17 Players’ Championship in Toronto and the May 3-8 Champions Cup in Olds, Alta.
