Rose Garden donation a personal testament to friendship

Donating to the Rose Garden Hospice efforts was a deeply personal thing for Carolyn Fenton.

She, along with her husband Dan and their business Prince Albert Photocopier, gave $27,000 to the hospice effort today.

As a new resident to Prince Albert many years ago, Carolyn made a friend when she met Rose Daschuk, the woman the hospice is named for.

“She was an amazing woman, made me feel very much at home and made me feel very welcome into the community,” said Carolyn.

Daschuk passed away over a decade ago and her family decided at the time that more needed to be done to help people have improved end of life situations.

A hospice allows for the dying person to receive any medical care they need in their final days while it also allows for families to gather in privacy and comfort while the process unfolds.

A recent campaign initiative matched donations to purchases of 2x6s of lumber with a fundraising goal of $500,000.

Econo Lumber matched donation up to $100,000.

“We have met our goal of 300 2x6s. We actually went over our goal so that’s super exciting. We had great support from the community,” said Marina Mitchell, a member of the fundraising community.

Dan said that choosing the Rose Garden as a worthy donation was easy.

“It’s just a community initiative that we were proud to be a part of. It ticked all the boxes,” he said.

The Hospice has a goal of raising $4 million for construction of the facility, which has already begun.
