MELFORT, Sask. — Agriculture safety is essential for all farming operations.

Canadian Agricultural Safety Week is March 13 to 19 with this year’s theme ‘Safety is Our Standard’.

Canadian Agricultural Safety Association CEO Andrea Lear said farm safety is not just about knowing what hazards exist.

“It is changing unsafe behaviours and habits, understanding the positive business case for incorporating safety on farming operations and addressing what it means to value safety and health,” Lear said.

Agriculture week sponsors include Farm Credit Canada, CN Rail, Syngenta, Bayer Crop Science and Fertilizer Canada.

The Canola Council of Canada (CCC) has selected its new board chair.

Jennifer Marchand is Government and Industry Relations Leader with Cargill Limited.

She succeeded SaskCanola director Charlene Bradley who finished her three-year term as chair but remains on the board as a director.

CCC also released its 2021 annual report which reflected on the year’s progress as well as the opportunities for the future.

President Jim Everson said it was a year of many changes and challenges, including one of the most difficult production years on record.

“Navigating these times of uncertainty reminds us of the importance of collaboration and continued investment in research and innovation to find solutions and prepare for new opportunities on the horizon,” Everson said in a news release.
