PRAYERS FOR UKRAINE

P.A. community offers prayers to Ukraine

Feb 28, 2022 | 4:12 PM

As the war in Ukraine continues to unfold, local parishes opened their doors to offer prayers to their home country this past weekend.

Prince Albert is home to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church and St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Both congregations offered prayers during their weekend services as many locals are still trying to come to grips with what’s happening in Ukraine.

“Many of the parishioners have relatives in Ukraine and various regions of Ukraine and, of course, everyone is worried for not only their loved ones but for everybody in the country and the surrounding regions who are all affected by this very tragic event and this humanitarian disaster,” said Fr. Andrei Kachur with St. George’s.

The church said prayers in their Sunday service and Kachur said they will continue to do so in future services.

Prayers were also offered at Holy Trinity as the community was offered to chance to pray for Ukraine on Saturday and Sunday.

Later in the week, there will be another opportunity for the city to come together to support Ukraine.

“This Friday at Embassy Church will be an ecumenical service with the various religious groups in Prince Albert to pray for Ukraine,” Kachur said.

The city-wide prayer evening starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Embassy Church inside Plaza 88.
