Building of the new arenas is expected to be completed by March 2024 according to an updated timeline that will be presented to Prince Albert City Council on Monday.

The city is now at the stage of having three qualified general contractors that will be invited to bid on the project.

Graham Construction and Engineering, PCL Construction Management and Wright Construction Western all made it through the pre-qualification process.

Bid documents will be issued in March with the successful candidate notified in April.

Included in this phase of the development is the construction of the 52,500 square foot aquatic centre, which will include a competition pool, zero depth entry wave pool and splash pad, a lazy river, a whirlpool and two water slides.

Two arenas that will be 73,500 square feet in size will also be built; they will have twin pads, 10 team dressing rooms and two official dressing rooms along with second level spectator seating.

A shared lobby, with mechanical rooms, the parking lot and landscaping is also included in the project.

Each general contractor will submit an overall price based on the tender package but must also include individual prices on each of the different engineering disciplines.

The city’s architectural firm will review the bid submissions and forward a recommendation for council approval in April of 2022.

Construction is expected to be finished in March 2024.

Movement is also happening on ‘The Yard District’ that is planned for the lands adjacent to the arena/pool site.

An update is attached to the agenda of the Feb. 28 executive committee meeting.

Signature Development Corporation said it has made significant progress, including a geotechnical survey of the entire development, an environmental assessment and supplementary geotechnical investigation that were targeted to the storm water pond and the lift station.

Also worked on was a heritage investigation and report and an engineering servicing study. A traffic impact assessment for the full development was also completed submitted and approved.

With some subdivisions already done and approved, Signature Development said they have already sold two parcels of land and expect another two parcels to have final sales completed soon.

A fifth parcel is being finalized and they will submit a third application for subdivision once it is done.

As part of the build up of the area, Marquis Road will be widened in the 2022 construction season. This project will have two lanes built on the east bound lanes of the street.
