Raise a fork to the food we love

MELFORT, Sask. – Canada’s Agriculture Day is a time for the country to come together to recognize and celebrate the men and women who produce the food that Canadians, and people around the globe, love to eat.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said it’s important to recognize the hard work of agricultural producers and all agri-food workers across the country. Despite the many challenges of the past two years the sector remains committed to providing with healthy, nutritious, and high-quality food.

“It is through the dedication of our farmers to their land and their animals, their concern for the environment and their commitment to our rural communities that Canada is known for its sustainable agriculture,” Bibeau said.

Canadian Federation of Agriculture second Vice President Todd Lewis said Canadians enjoy some of the most affordable high-quality food available in the world.

“We’re here to feed not only Canada but a large part of the world and it’s big important part of the industry here in both Saskatchewan and across Canada and something that really does support our economy,” Lewis said. “We’re going to do our best to continue with the good work that we have been doing.”

Consumers want to know where their food comes from, who is producing it and how, according to John Jamieson, president, and chief executive officer of the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity.

“It is a day to thank farmers and producers for their hard work to provide the country and the world with some of the safest, high-quality food,” Jamieson said.

Canadians are invited to share their passion for food and agriculture on social media by using the official hashtag #CdnAgDay.
