After a significant donation from Gord and Barb Broda on Friday afternoon, the Rose Garden Hospice are very close to their fundraising goal of $4 million.

Gord Broda is the president of Broda Group, a family-owned business in Prince Albert, and he has donated $300,000 to the hospice.

Gord said they’re happy to be a part of it.

“Barb and I believe the hospice is something that this community needs and we’re prepared to support it and yeah, $300,000 is maybe a significant contribution but it’s our part of trying to make our community a better place,” he told paNOW.

He went on to say he believes we’ve all had some personal connections that make you appreciate and realize how important this facility is, whether it’s a parent or a loved one.

“I think this is going to be a very well received, very well used facility,” he said.

Don Dashchuk, board member for the Rose Garden Hospice said the basement of the building is done and with the framing underway, he believes it will be about eight weeks before the building is up.

“It’s looking good, we’re so happy to be at this stage right now,” Dashchuk said. “And if the weather cooperates and is nice for us it speeds things along. We’ve really been fighting the weather these last couple months here.”

Dashchuk admitted they were hoping to be farther ahead at this point as they’re a month behind because of the weather but everyone is doing a great job.

“We’d like to thank all the subcontractors that have just been so understanding and doing the best they can to holding their prices and cutting their rates. You know, we’re just so thankful to them,” he said.
