Shellbrook Kinsmen/Kinettes launch fundraising drive for TeleMiracle

TeleMiracle 46 is less than a month away, and excitement is building within the Shellbrook Kinsmen/Kinettes club.

The return of an online auction is a key part of this year’s fundraising effort. The auction starts Monday and runs through Sunday. Noting some hesitancy to do in-person events, club member Kat Mackin-Smith told paNOW the auction last year was a fun way to bring community members together.

“A lot of razzing goes on between community members outbidding each other. Although we couldn’t be in person, it really created a sense of community,” she said.

Last year’s online auction raised over $14,442. The final community tally of $22,254 represented the auction, personal donations, business donations, Helping Hands, WP Sandin High School and Wild Rose School.

“Every year we try and up the ante, whether it’s more auction items or more accessibility for getting donations in,” Mackin-Smith said.

One of those alternative options is through the various Helping Hand boxes set up around Shellbrook at multiple businesses. Pre-addressed envelopes will be available beside the boxes for anyone wanting a donation receipt. Those people are encouraged to provide their name and mailing address with their donation.

Another big change this year is that Kinettes members will once again be allowed to be physically on stage during the Telemiracle event in Regina. Mackin-Smith said it’s one of the events every year that literally every single one of the Kinettes is excited for.

“We are always so excited to get there and present our cheque because the community is always so supportive of it so we always feel like we are absolute rocks stars presenting usually an outlandish amount of money,” she said.

Telemiracle runs March 5-6.
