P.A. woman aiming to be next cover model for international magazine

A woman from Prince Albert is aiming to be the next cover model for an international magazine.

Melanie Hicks, a TikTok influencer and teacher, is taking part in Inked Magazine’s contest with the winner also receiving a $25,000 cash prize.

She got her first tattoo during what she called her “rebel phase” as they weren’t allowed when she was younger.

Now with eight, Hicks told paNOW she’s using them to help her get out of her comfort zone.

“It is a little bit strange to say it’s out of my comfort zone as my face is kind of everywhere but to get behind a camera and have someone else control the photos is a little bit of a stretch for me.”

She’s also running for her seven-year-old daughter. Hicks wants her to see that tattoos are a great art form.

“I’m more than excited to see my daughter experiment with her own art and her own story and if she decides to put that on her body permanently, she definitely has my support.”

If Hicks were to win and receive the cash prize, she has a couple of ideas of what she’d spend it on.

This includes putting a down payment on a house and clearing up some debt. Her biggest want is to take a trip with her daughter.

“I’ve never left Canada. I have a dream of taking her on a trip with me.”

People have until Feb. 10th to vote for who they want to see in the next round with Hicks, as of Friday afternoon, sitting second in her group. The finals take place in March.

Meanwhile, Hicks isn’t the only Saskatchewan woman taking part in the contest.

Sasha Janzen, who runs a medi-spa and tattoo studio at Porcupine Plain, is also looking to become the next cover model and win the cash prize.
