COVID IN SCHOOLS

PACSD hears update on COVID-19 case rates

Jan 25, 2022 | 4:00 PM

Prince Albert Catholic schools saw a big rise in the number of COVID-19 cases following the Christmas break.

An update on cases and Public Health Orders was provided to the Prince Albert Catholic School Division (PACSD) Board of Trustees earlier this week.

Among the information provided was a progression of the COVID-19 cases over four different time frames. The PACSD said between Jan. 5 and Jan 17, 159 positive cases were reported. In comparison, only 75 cases were reported from Sept. to Dec. 2021, and 65 reported from Sept. 2020 to June 2021.

The division noted following the Christmas break, the Omicron variant continued to spread throughout the province, influencing how the PACSD manages COVID-19 mitigation in schools.

Following changes to Health Orders, the school is not receiving details about isolation dates or contact tracing from the SHA. Instead, Public Health is monitoring absenteeism due to illness.

On Monday, St. Catherine Catholic School moved online after an outbreak was declared at the school.

The division and Public Health Officials are also monitoring four other schools: St. Francis, École Holy Cross, École St. Anne, and St. John Community School, for increasing COVID rates.
