End of the road for Northeast chapter of Saskatchewan Country Music Association

Jan 19, 2022 | 3:00 PM

Some sad news for the local country music scene as a chapter of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA) has shut down.

Earlier this week, the SCMA announced on social media its Northeast chapter was closing.

In an emailed statement, outgoing president Leonard Beth Gray said low membership was a deciding factor, adding they only had three active members.

“We attempted to recruit members through the local schools and that also was unsuccessful, so closure was a last resort,” the statement reads. “We had once been a very active chapter, three times hosting the provincial awards weekend show. Sorry to see it end.”

Gray goes on to say the northeast members can choose to join another chapter if they desire.

The SCMA currently has chapters in Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon and the Southwest.
