Daily highs of new COVID cases continue in Saskatchewan; province continues to report no new deaths

New case numbers of COVID-19 continue to be high with another 1,089 new cases today.

However, there also continues to be no new deaths to report in the province.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (19), Far North Central (one), Far North East (28), North West (45), North Central (56), and North East (nine).

There are currently 11,781 cases considered active, 1,436 are active in the northern zones of the province.

Nearly two-fifths (39.5 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Jan. 18, a total of 189 individuals are hospitalized, including 171 inpatient hospitalizations and 18 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 189 patients, 67 (35.4 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The SHA dashboard includes 189 hospitalizations: 171 residents are inpatient: of those, 95 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 63 are incidental, COVID infections and 13 have not yet been determined. Seventeen residents are in ICUs: of those, nine are for COVID-19-related illnesses, six are for incidental, COVID infections and two are undetermined. One incidental COVID infection is in PICU/NICU.

COVID-19 Summary for January 18, 2022:

From Jan. 12 – Jan. 18, 15,309 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of primary series vaccines administered in the province to 1,834,160.

An additional 42,538 third and fourth doses have been administered in the province from Jan. 12 – Jan. 18, bringing the total number of vaccines including boosters administered in the province to 2,251,572. Forty-four per cent of eligible residents age 18+ have now received their booster dose.

As of Jan. 18, 88 per cent of residents 12 years and older and 85 per cent of residents five years older have received their first dose. Eighty-four per cent of residents 12 years and older and 78 per cent of residents five years and older are fully vaccinated.

There were 8,533 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Jan. 12 – Jan. 18, bringing the provincial total to 102,641 cases. There were 5,670 recoveries recorded during the same period.

Zero new deaths were reported Jan. 12 – Jan. 18.

As of Jan. 18, 189 individuals are hospitalized including 171 inpatient hospitalizations and 18 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 189 patients, 67 (35.4 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 26 new cases to report on Jan. 17 in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, 10 (38 per cent) are not vaccinated; 11 (42 per cent) are fully vaccinated; and five (19 per cent) are not ineligible for vaccination.

There are 196 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 7; Far North West, 43; Far North East, 114; North Central, 10; and North East, 22. There have been 7,007 cases (97 per cent) that have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

The active case count in the Athabasca Health Region is now seven as of Jan. 17. No new cases were reported yesterday.
