Schneider snipes in NHL debut

Jan 14, 2022 | 11:00 AM

Prince Albert’s Braden Schneider scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game while enjoying his first NHL victory on Thursday night as his New York Rangers defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-0 on the road in San Jose.

With all the feats Schneider was able to achieve in his debut, it wasn’t like he sauntered into the Rangers’ dressing room with an abundance of cockiness.

Instead, Schneider was understandably trying his best to calm his nerves.

“The whole day, I was quite jittery. I couldn’t really sit still. My nap wasn’t too great. I came to the rink, the same thing. I had nerves, but I was just trying to stay in the moment. When I got on the ice for warmup, it became a little more real, but I don’t think it hit me until the first shift of the game. I felt like after that, I think I settled in and I got a little more confident as the game went on.”

His parents Carmela and Kelly were able to make the trip and saw Braden for the first time since the summer, and saw him play a hockey game without the need of a television or computer screen for the first time in about two years.
