Roughriders announce signings of two players, release of one

Jan 13, 2022 | 2:21 PM

The Saskatchewan Roughriders added two players to their roster Thursday and subtracted one.

The CFL team announced it had signed two Americans — offensive lineman Ka’John Armstrong and running back-returner Shamar Moreland — and released Canadian fullback Alexandre Dupuis.

Dupuis was slated to become a free agent in February. The 31-year-old product of Montreal appeared in 11 regular-season games with the Roughriders in 2021, catching three passes for 12 yards and a touchdown and making one special-teams tackle.

Armstrong, 25, signed with Saskatchewan in August and spent the season on the practice roster. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder previously had NFL stints with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons.

In college, the Detroit product played 43 games over four seasons at Eastern Michigan University.

Moreland, a 6-foot-0, 190-pounder from Phoenix, played his college football at Ottawa University in Arizona.

In his senior season, he led the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics with an average of 212.6 all-purpose yards per game. He also ranked third in the nation with a kickoff return average of 30.9 yards and his four return touchdowns — two on kickoff and two on punts — led the country.
