Province reports 1,084 new cases of COVID-19, 110 in northern zones

The province confirmed another 1,084 new cases of COVID-19 today, 110 of which are in the northern zones of the province.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (23), Far North East (15), North West (40), North Central (22), and North East (10).

Today was another day of no new deaths of patients with COVID-19 in the province.

There are now 8,706 cases considered active across the province, a 477 case jump from yesterday’s total following 617 recoveries recorded by the province.

Of the active cases, 882 are located in the northern zones of the province.

Almost one-half (43.3 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Jan. 11, a total of 121 individuals are hospitalized, including 112 inpatient hospitalizations and nine ICU hospitalizations. Of the 121 patients, 57 (47.1 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

The SHA dashboard includes 121 hospitalizations: 112 residents are inpatient: of those, 57 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 45 are incidental, asymptomatic infections and 10 have not yet been determined. Nine residents are in ICUs: of those, seven are for COVID-19-related illnesses, two is incidental, asymptomatic infections.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 16 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 11. Of the new cases, three (19 per cent) were not vaccinated; one (six per cent) were partially vaccinated; 10 (63 per cent) were fully vaccinated, and two (13 per cent) were ineligible for vaccination.

There are 125 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), one; Far North West, 35; Far North East, 78; North Central, four; and North East, seven. There were 6,927 cases (98 per cent) that have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.
