Saskatchewan Winter Games in Regina cancelled due to COVID-19
The Saskatchewan Winter Games that were set to take place in Regina in late February will not go ahead due to COVID-19. The annual event was scheduled for Feb. 20 to 26.
The Saskatchewan Games Council and the Regina Host Committee decided not to proceed with the event based on advice from medical health officials from the SHA and input from the medical division of the organizing committee because of the unpredictability of the omicron variant.
Throughout the process of planning the games the Saskatchewan Games Council and the Regina Host Committee worked closely with medical officials.
“Most recently, the unpredictability and rapid spread of the new Omicron variant has added an extra layer of health and public safety risk that became collectively more challenging to mitigate. The Host Organizing Committee has taken every precaution to ensure the health and safety of the games participants, the Regina community, and visitors from across the province,” as stated in a media release.
