Phase two of Canada-Alberta Agri-Recovery assistance now open
LETHBRIDGE, AB. — The second phase of the Canada-Alberta Livestock Feed Assistance Agri-Recovery initiative opened on January 5, 2022 and will provided continued assistance to eligible Alberta producers, who were hit hard by the 2021 drought.
Together, the initial and secondary payments will put up to $340 million into the hands of producers to help them address the extraordinary costs incurred feeding their livestock during the 2021 drought. This phase of the program is open to all producers who have grazing breeding female livestock as of December 31, 2021 and also includes provisions for bee feed assistance.
Participants will receive one payment for up to 70 per cent of the extraordinary costs association with preparing eligible bees for winter. That would be up to $7.50 per hive, to assist with the costs to purchase pollen patties and syrup.
All cattle producers are eligible for phase two, even if they did not participate in phase one. Producers who did not receive the initial payment of $94/head (based on cattle and bison) can apply for compensation of up to $200/head under the second phase.
