Vaccination Rate

Roughly 97 per cent of city of P.A. employees fully vaccinated

Nearly all city of Prince Albert employees are double-vaxxed against COVID-19.

That’s according to Mayor Greg Dionne who told paNOW nearly 97 per cent of the roughly 450-person workforce have received both shots.

Less than 20 are unvaccinated.

Those who aren’t need to provide a negative rapid test every 72 hours.

“If you don’t, you’re sent home and after five times you don’t have to come back,” said Dionne.

None of the unvaccinated are among P.A.’s city council.

The high rate among staff and the vaccine policy they brought in for city facilities also appear to be doing what they were intended to do.

There have been no COVID cases linked to any city-operated buildings since the measures came into effect. This is according to Dr. Khami Chokani, the city’s public health officer, who recently gave an update to P.A.’s council.

“That does make us feel good strictly because when you do something like that, you’re affecting people’s lives and you hope it’s the right thing,” added Dionne.

One of these city-operated facilities is the Art Hauser Centre, home of the Prince Albert Raiders.

As of Dec. 27, 2021, only three teams in the Western Hockey League (WHL) had zero active cases. They were the Edmonton Oil Kings, Calgary Hitmen, and the Raiders.

“We’re proud of that fact,” noted Dionne.
