Power restored in P.A. after semi-truck damages infrastructure

Dec 30, 2021 | 12:26 PM

Power is back in downtown Prince Albert after a small outage.

According to Scott McGregor, media relations consultant with SaskPower, a semi-truck damaged a crossarm late Wednesday afternoon.

He told paNOW crews needed to wait until today to properly fix it.

“Our technicians made it safe (on Wednesday) so they could do the repairs with enough daylight (on Thursday).”

Around 120 properties were impacted late Thursday morning.

McGregor added they’re confident any future outages will be because of damaged infrastructure as they have enough capacity to cope with the increased usage due to the cold weather.

Meanwhile, the freezing temperatures have helped Saskatchewan break a record for power consumption.

On Wednesday, homes and businesses across the province reached 3,868 megawatts in power use. The old record was set four years ago to the day.

“We have plenty of capacity in reserve,” added McGregor. “No real concerns there.”

He noted there’s a strong possibility the record could be broken again in the coming days.
