Charges laid following man’s death Christmas Day at Muskoday First Nation

A manslaughter charge has been laid by Prince Albert RCMP in connection to a man’s death Christmas Day at Muskoday First Nation.

David Duong, 34, made his first court appearance on Tuesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, and was remanded to Wednesday when his matters were adjourned to Jan. 5.

On Dec. 25, at approximately 6 a.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report of an injured man at a residence on Muskoday First Nation.

Sydney Bear, 34, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

David Duong was soon after arrested and charged as a result of collaborative investigation by Prince Albert RCMP, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit, Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service and Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation and Forensic Identification Sections.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, Duong also faces one count of breaching a previous court order which prohibited him from possessing a weapon.

Community members have indicated to paNOW Duong was not from there, but may have been staying at a friend’s house. The funeral service has been scheduled for Friday afternoon at St. James Anglican Church in Muskoday.
