Cases of COVID-19 jump with 789 now active and 194 new cases reported

As of Dec. 23, there are 194 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by the province government. Of the new cases, 113 are among vaccinated individuals.

Twenty-one new cases are located in the northern zones of the province, Far North West (two), Far North East (one), North West (seven), North Central (seven), and North East (four).

There are now 789 cases currently considered active, including 103 in northern Saskatchewan. This is a 162 case jump from the number of active cases reported yesterday.

Almost one-half (45.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

Under two-thirds (60.4 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 23, a total of 87 individuals are hospitalized, including 58 inpatient hospitalizations and 29 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 87 patients, 50 (57.5 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

One new death reported today brings the provincial total to 945 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 21, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has reported four new cases in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, two (50 per cent) were unvaccinated, and two (50 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 12 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, nine; Far North East, three; North Central, 0; and North East, 0. There have been 6,891 cases (99 per cent) have recovered, and one person is hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
