A generous donation for P.A.’s Rendalyn Home

A local home for new and expectant mothers recently received a generous donation from members of the community.

Last week, the Prince Albert chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) presented a donation of $1,165 to the home. The money came from donations within the club and from past fundraisers.

Dalelene Yelland is a past president of the CFUW Prince Albert and said the organization has been around for decades.

“It was started in 1919 and the Prince Albert club has been going since 1931 so this is our 90th year. The focus is on education and lifelong learning and advocating for women’s equality and human rights.”

The group is known for its semi-annual book sales, which raises funds to provide scholarships to Grade 12 students across the city.

Yelland said, on average, they’re able to award around $5,000 in scholarships.

She added the YWCA was thrilled to receive the donation so close to Christmas but for Yelland, the gift had another special meaning.

“My husband and I used to operate the Bed and Breakfast called Hillcrest Inn Bed and Breakfast and we sold that house on 20th Street to the YWCA and that’s when it became the Rendalyn Home.”

“It really did my heart good. We hadn’t gone back and actually had an opportunity to see all the developments and progress that we made since we sold it to them, so we were quite excited.”

Yelland and the rest of the CFUW are hopeful they can return to their regular fundraising events, including its first book sale of the new year, scheduled for April.
