Mintos beat Contacts in OT, Tait signs, Bears starstruck

The Prince Albert Mintos got a clutch performance from their captain on Thursday. Skipper Rhett Ravndahl got the overtime winner as the Mintos defeated the Saskatoon Contacts 3-2 in the extra frame Thursday at the Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon.

The Mintos did have a 2-0 lead through the first eight minutes of the game with goals from Danton Cox and Jacob Cossette. Berkly Catton, the first overall pick in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, set up Brady Smith then tied the game in the third period to tie the game.

The Fate of Tait

Prince Albert’s Ashton Tait signed with the Kamloops Blazers on Thursday. The Blazers used their first pick of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft to select Tait, 26th overall in the second round. Tait has 15 goals and 26 points for the Mintos through 23 games. He’s tied for the MIntos’ lead for goals and is second in team points.

Da Bears

The Prince Albert Northern Bears fell 3-2 to the Saskatoon Stars on Thursday. They were down 3-0, 7:30 into the third period. The Bears were able to climb back into the game late, as Kassie Ferster scored with seven minutes remaining and Sophia Zuck got the Bears to be within one goal with 42 seconds remaining.

The Bears will take on the Stars for a rematch on Saturday.
