MELFORT, Sask. – Beginning in January, Statistics Canada will be conducting its Farm Management Survey.

The data collected will be used by government to create policies and programs to support farmers and helps further Canada’s sustainability goals.

The information gathered will include the production of dairy, beef, poultry, pig, field crops, forage crops and vegetable, fruit, berry, and nut crops.

The organization said they are prepared to support farmers impacted by severe weather across the country.

Canada’s agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau met with the U.S. Ambassador to Canada to discuss several issues including trade.

Bibeau spoke to David Cohen about resuming exports of fresh potatoes. She said PEI potatoes are a staple for many families along the eastern seaboard and Puerto Rico.

Bibeau also thanked the United States for allowing trans-shipment of agri-food products through the United States in the wake of recent floods in British Columbia.

Loblaw Companies is expanding its commitment to beef sustainability in Canada with a purchase of three million additional pounds of beef sourced from CRSB Certified Sustainable farms and ranches by 2023.

This will triple its initial purchase of one million pounds in 2020.

Loblaw is working toward a system where at least 30 per cent of the beef it sources will be CRSB Certified and will be incorporated into Loblaws’ overall beef purchases.

The Canadian beef industry has committed to a goal of including a 33 per cent reduction in greenhouse gases, a 50 per cent reduction in post-harvest food loss and waste, as well as preserving the 35 million acres of grasslands remaining in Canada.
