KINDNESS CARAVAN

Santa Claus and the Kindness Caravan ready to roll through P.A.

Dec 16, 2021 | 12:00 PM

Santa Claus is getting ready to make his way through Prince Albert Thursday night.

It’s all part of this year’s Kindness Caravan, presented by the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) Urban Services Community Cares Kitchen.

With the annual Santa Claus parade cancelled for a second consecutive year last month, the PAGC felt it was a great time to bring back the caravan to spread Christmas cheer across the city.

“This is huge. Whenever we can help out and work together with everybody, that’s our intention and to give back to Prince Albert.”

The Kindness Caravan started last year as a two-night event, to honour front-line workers, teachers and community members who went above and beyond in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despins said that will once again be the focus for the event.

“We’re going to give back and just celebrate and get everyone in the Christmas spirit.”

This past weekend, Community Cares Kitchen posted on Facebook, confirming that Santa Claus will be a part of the caravan.

However, despite the cold temperatures expected that evening, there are times Santa will be inside a vehicle to warm up. That’s where his elves come into play as they will help fill those times.

Vehicles will start arriving at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial Centre around 6:40 p.m., to start the festivities at 7:00 p.m.

The caravan will start in West Flat and travel along River Street East before moving south on 15 Ave. E. through Crescent Heights. The vehicles will then travel along East Hill and West Hill before returning to the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre.

The Community Cares Kitchen will be sharing parts of the caravan live through its Facebook page.

Those taking part in the parade or viewing outside are asked to bundle up as temperatures will stay in the minus 20s, without windchill, Thursday night.
