‘Once in a lifetime’: Birch Hills still buzzing from Gord Bamford show

It’s an experience that many living in the town of Birch Hills never imagined would come to their community.

On Saturday, award-winning country artist Gord Bamford brought his “Kick COVID in the A$$” tour to the Birch Hills Civic Centre.

The event was organized by community members as well as the Senior Blackhawks hockey team and the Senior Brewers baseball club.

Adam Morrison was one of the concert organizers and said the show was nothing short of spectacular.

“This will probably be a once in a lifetime thing for guys in Birch Hills to have a concert like that. It means a lot that he would take the time and come to a small town like us, support the baseball and hockey team and stuff like that.”

Morrison added putting the concert together was a community effort and was pleased residents came together to bring this high energy show to a small town like Birch Hills.

Recreation director for the town Zac Pitzel also helped organize the concert and echoed that sentiment from Morrison saying this was truly a community effort.

“It’s not too often you can get someone as big as Gord to come to Birch Hills for a concert. Having the opportunity for something like that was really cool. The people in town that came and supported our ball team and supported our event like this has been tremendous.”

Both Morrison and Pitzel said while it may not happen anytime soon, they’re hopeful other artists like Bamford will come to Birch Hills.

“I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to it. I’m hoping that if they’re willing to come back, we’d gladly take them again. If other artists would like to come and do a concert here, I’d be more than happy to accept them,” Pitzel said.

“He brought the same stuff that he would for a stadium concert,” Morrison added. “As much as I’d love to say ‘I’d love to see another show like that in Birch Hills,’ and I obviously wouldn’t guarantee that it wouldn’t happen, I can’t see it happening.”

Gord Bamford continues his “Kick COVID in the A$$” tour on Jan. 21 with a stop in Didsbury, Alta. He returns to Saskatchewan on April 9 with a show in Unity.
