Buckland Fire Dept. exploring options for new home

Dec 13, 2021 | 5:00 PM

A need for more space and a better location to respond to calls are among the reasons cited by the chief of the Buckland Fire Department for why they are looking at building a new fire hall.

The idea was brought up during Monday’s Rural Municipality (RM) of Buckland council meeting.

“We are just too big for our current building,” Chief Gary Schraeder told paNOW.

The current building is located roughly six km west of Prince Albert off of Whitfield Road. Schraeder confirmed the proposed new site is north of the city near the Wildlife Federation Building.

“Most of our calls are all on Highway 2 north anyway,” he said.

Acknowledging that he knew council was looking at getting some land over there too, Schraeder said the fire department just wanted to give council a heads up about their intentions.

During the meeting, council gave their support for the plan to move forward. There has been no timeline discussed yet with respect to construction.
