Amid bitter windchills, local outreach calls for more spaces for homeless people
A local outreach ministry is demanding more be done to protect Prince Albert’s vulnerable, homeless population amid frostbite inducing weather.
The Reaching Out Street Ministry occasionally hands out hot beverages, food and provides warm vehicles for those waiting to get into the Stepping Stones Shelter on Exhibition Drive.
However, the gathering on Monday had another purpose as volunteers with the ministry wanted to bring awareness to the many people left behind and out in the cold.
Max Nova, an aspiring hip-hop artist, was one of Prince Albert’s homeless individual’s waiting outside the shelter. As windchills reached close to minus 40 that evening, Nova shared some of his concerns with a lack of spaces in the city.
