Active COVID case count continues to drop as 48 new cases and two deaths reported

The provincial government has announced another 48 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, half of which are among unvaccinated individuals.

Six new cases were identified in northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (two), North West (two), and North Central (two).

Two new deaths reported today bringing the provincial total to 931 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There are currently 634 cases considered active, a 62 case drop from yesterday’s active case count. There are currently 162 active cases in the six northern Saskatchewan zones.

More than one-fifth (22.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of five to 11

Less than one-half (47.7 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 6, a total of 130 individuals are hospitalized, including 100 inpatient hospitalizations and 30 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 130 patients, 85 (65.4 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Saskatchewan ICU counts, there are three residents receiving out of province care in hospital. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 81,410 cases have been confirmed; 19,866 cases are from the North area (8,831 North West, 8,198 North Central, 2,837 North East) and 9,363 cases are from the Far North area (4,400 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,422 Far North East). There has also been 79,845 cases considered recovered.

There are now 840,505 fully vaccinated residents in the province with a total of 1,763,254 vaccines administered. This number does not include 93,243 third and fourth doses that have also been administered.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 5, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported two new cases in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, one (50 per cent) was unvaccinated, and one (50 per cent) was fully vaccinated.

There are 11 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, five; Far North East, five; North Central, one; and North East, 0. There have been 6,855 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and one person is being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
