Province reports 78 new cases of COVID-19, 17 in Northern Saskatchewan

On Friday, 78 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported; 52 of which are among unvaccinated individuals, with 30 cases among children between the ages of 0-11.

In Northern Saskatchewan, the new cases were found in the North West (five) and North Central (12).

One new death was reported which brings the provincial total to 929 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There have been 81,225 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic; 19,831 cases are from the North area (8,818 North West, 8,176 North Central, 2,837 North East) and 9,353 cases are from the Far North area (4,397 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,415 Far North East).

There are currently 744 active cases, an increase of 11 cases from Thursday”s total, and 79,552 cases have recovered.

Over one-quarter (29.5 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 5 to 11.

Just over one-third (33.8 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 5 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 3, a total of 136 people are hospitalized, including 34 in ICU. Of the 136 patients, 90 (66.2 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Saskatchewan ICU counts, there are four residents receiving care in Ontario.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 1, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported zero new cases in NITHA communities.

There are four active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

There have been 6,856 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and one person is being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
