New and familiar faces return to Sask. Wheat board

MELFORT, Sask. – Two current Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask. Wheat) directors have been re-elected, a former director is returning, and a first-time candidate will join the board of directors in 2022.

Election results were released today and Jake Leguee, who farms near Weyburn and Brett Halstead of Nokomis will be back to serve another four-year term.

Former Sask. Wheat director Scott Hepworth, who farms near Assiniboia returns to the board table while the new director is Robert Stone from Davidson.

They will be joining the four current directors: Lesley Kelly of Watrous, Glenn Tait of Meota, and Jocelyn Velestuk of Broadview.

There were 2,466 verified and counted ballots returned for this election. Of those, 1,513 producers voted with a paper ballot while 953 producers voted online.

Two long-serving directors will be leaving the board in January. Bill Gehl, who farms near Regina and Ken Rosaasen, who resides in Saskatoon and farms near Preeceville were both first elected to the board in 2013 and served on numerous committees.

Gehl was also the board chair from 2014 to 2018.

The recently elected directors’ terms will start at the Sask Wheat annual general meeting on Jan. 10.
